Welcome to Pictou!
In 1773, hundreds of settlers from Scotland arrived via the Hector to what is now the town of Pictou, located approximately 150 km (92 mi) northeast of Halifax on the shores of the Northumberland Strait. Descendants of these original settlers make up the bulk of the population of this charming seaside town, which calls itself 'The Birthplace of New Scotland,' and at the Hector Heritage Quay Historic Site, located at the waterfront along the picturesque boardwalk, a replica of the historic ship teaches visitors about the early life in the town. Immersed in natural waterfront scenery, the town offers access to a number of parks and beaches, which can be explored at leisure via foot or boat. Pictou's definitive event, the Lobster Festival, happens each year in July, and features a variety of exciting festivities, including a Mardi Gras parade, live entertainment, boat races, derbies and much more, all topped off with an awe-inspiring fireworks display.Tourist Attractions
